Association of Pickleball Professionals Announces Champions Tour

Rebranding of Senior Pro division for professionals aged 50 and above, 20 Tour stops on 2023 schedule

CHICAGO (November 4, 2022) – The Association of Pickleball Professionals (APP) announced the creation of the APP Champions Tour. Formerly known as the Senior Pro division, the Champions Tour is the USA Pickleball-sanctioned tour for pickleball professionals aged 50 and above.

The 2023 APP Champions Tour schedule consists of the same 20 APP Tour stops, which were announced in September. In addition to regular tour stops, senior pros will compete in the same four Major tournaments and two Championships and vie for prize pools separate from their APP Tour counterparts.

As part of the tour rebranding, the APP is doubling the number of Champions Tour players eligible for financial support from 10 to 20, with the top five-ranked men’s and women’s players receiving monetary stipends and top ten-ranked players receiving entry fee waivers.

“The APP is incredibly proud to announce the reinvigorated Champions Tour,” said APP Founder Ken Herrmann. “Through the Champions Tour, our senior professionals are a testament to what pickleball is all about – a family-friendly, ageless sport – while also competing at the highest level.”

The rejuvenated tour also introduces the newly-named Champions Council to represent the players. Seven senior pros will serve on the council:

  • Kim Jagd (Chair)
  • Beth Bellamy
  • Tom DeCaprio
  • Rich Lopez
  • John Sperling
  • Helen Wilhelm
  • Rick Witsken

“We are thrilled the APP is rebranding the Senior Pro division as Champions,” said Kim Jagd, Champions Council chair. “The Champions Tour shouts revitalization and professionalism.”

Future schedules for the APP International Series and Collegiate Series will be announced in the coming weeks. Additional information on USA Pickleball National Championship Series and Golden Ticket events will also be announced soon.
