CHICAGO (July 19, 2022) – The Association of Pickleball Professionals (APP) Tour announced today the following changes regarding the APP Austin Open, the APP Sunmed Houston Open, and the APP Next Gen Series event in Dallas.

Due to facility issues the 2022 APP Austin Open, scheduled for September 29th through October 2nd, has been canceled.

In lieu of this cancellation, the 2022 APP Sunmed Houston Open has been upgraded from a Tier 2 Challenger Series event to a Tier 1 Elite Series event. The APP Sunmed Houston Open will also now be designated as USA Pickleball “Golden Ticket” tournament, in which players will have their first opportunity of the 2022-23 season to automatically qualify for the 2023 National Championship Series Tournament at Indian Wells, California.

The APP Sunmed Houston Open will now take place from October 19th through 23rd. Additionally, the total prize pool for this event has increased from $35,000 to $60,000.

Further, the APP Next Gen Series event in Dallas, originally scheduled for November 18th-20th, has been rescheduled to September 30th through October 2nd, held at Chicken N Pickle in suburban Grand Prairie, Texas.
